Course Description:

This course teaches SLPs and OTs how to effectively treat picky eaters by creating a safe environment for them to confidently learn to eat new foods. This course teaches Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapists on how to treat picky eaters with mild oral phase dysphagia using Heidi Miller’s treatment method. Heidi’s method creates a client-centered safe environment for kids to confidently learn to explore new foods. The course teaches the clinician step-by-step the HMS Feeding protocol to treat picky eaters and children with ARFID. This process begins at the intake phone call to determine candidacy. Heidi demonstrates the HMS Feeding evaluation process. The course breaks down the structure of feeding therapy sessions. Various therapeutic techniques are demonstrated via client videos for a multitude of feeding challenges. The course also defines when it is appropriate to discharge a client from therapy. The HMS Feeding protocol demonstrates how the clinician can navigate challenging situations that may arise during feeding therapy and how to help gain the trust of the clients so that they can reach their fullest potential.
